Image Preview Review for December

Jim: Well I will admit that I have peeked ahead and saw that this December does not look overly exciting, but it does appear that Image is getting their house in order with doing a few re-solicitations to get their books back on track.
Lee: Let me translate what Jim wrote, “It’s a very slow month”. And I would agree with him.

FRANK FRAZETTA'S SILVER WARRIOR #1 (of 4) - GEM OF THE MONTH story JOSHUA ORTEGA art NAT JONES & JAY FOTOScover A FRANK FRAZETTA cover B NAT JONES & JAY FOTOS cover C NAT JONES
The creative team from last year's hit series FRANK FRAZETTA'S DEATH DEALER team up to tell the story behind of one FRAZETTA's most famous paintings-: The Silver Warrior! North of Iparsia, there is a land of frost known as Icevald. Akrila Sangrilak, the Silver Warrior, has watched over this land for decades, but now a deadly threat from beyond Icevald's shores threatens the entire continent! Critically acclaimed novelist and comics writer Joshua Ortega (GEARS OF WAR, THE NECROMANCER) teams up with superstar artists Nat Jones (SPAWN: THE DARK AGES, ROB ZOMBIE'S THE NAIL) and Jay Fotos (BEOWULF, '68) to bring you the first SILVER WARRIOR tale worthy of FRANK FRAZETTA's blessing-this one's been approved every step of the way by the Master himself!
DECEMBER 3 * 32 PAGES * FC * $3.99

Jim: The first book out of the box is one that does have me excited. I have enjoyed these Frazetta inspired books and I love Nat Jones on the art, so count me as sold.
Lee: The last title this team worked on was the Death Dealer series which was good and beautiful to look at. It’ll look great again. That’s for sure.

PHONOGRAM 2: THE SINGLES CLUB #1 (of 7)story KIERON GILLENart & cover JAMIE McKELVIE
The critically-acclaimed PHONOGRAM returns with seven issues of stand-alone Phonomantic stories, each set in the same night at a single nightclub. First up, Penny B wrestles with the big questions: Will she get the boy? Will the DJ play her record? Why was her gin and tonic so expensive? In a world where music is magic, she'll discover just how deep shallow actually gets. Plus: Two complete back-up stories featuring guest artists MARC ELLERBY (LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE) and LAUREN McCUBBIN (RENT GIRL).
DECEMBER 10 * 32 PAGES * FC * $3.50

Jim: Loved the art with Jamie McKelvie, but the story was not my cup of tea, so you can count me out with this second mini-series.
Lee: Passed on the first one, even in trade. So I’ll be passing on the second one. I like the music tie in but not enough to jump on now.

SPAWN: BOOK OF THE DEAD HCstory STEVE NILES & DAVID HINEart & cover ASHLEY WOOD
Written by STEVE NILES with additional content by DAVID HINE, the highly anticipated BOOK OF THE DEAD is the ultimate guide for any SPAWN fan. With each character in the Spawn mythos beautifully rendered by renowned artist ASHLEY WOOD, this hardcover is not to be missed!
DECEMBER 3 * 104 PAGES * FC * $29.99 (LIMITED TO 500 COPIES)$32.99 (TOY BUNDLE LIMITED TO 3,000 COPIES)

Jim: Even Steve Niles can not get me to buy another Spawn book. This character has been something I have not been interested in for many, many years.
Lee: Yeah yeah yeah I don’t care about the character either but did you notice the “toy bundle???? That’s right, the regular hc is limited to 500 copies BUT for $3 more you get a limited edition toy too. I wonder if the this is the future of marketing?

ARMAGEDDON NOW: WORLD WAR III HCstory PHIL HOTSENPILLER & ROB LIEFELDart & cover ROB LIEFELD & MIKE CAPPROTTI
An ancient prophecy is awakened. New York and Los Angeles are destroyed. Devastating earthquakes are felt as far as Jerusalem and Tokyo. America is devastated as armies across the globe prepare for final battle. One military officer, Lt. Col. John Corbin, is dispatched to find the source of the attacks on the U.S. The trail will take him as far as Israel in search of the mysterious artifact known as the "Corinthian." What secrets does the constellation of Orion hold and what role does Corbin play in the End of Days?
DECEMBER 3 * 120 PAGES * FC * $24.99

Jim: This must be my month to just not want hardly any of Image’s big new items. A $25 hard cover with Rob Liefeld art, NO THANKS!
Lee: I can’t believe that anyone is publishing Liefeld anymore. Wow, his art is getting worse, if that is possible.

DEAD SPACE HARDCOVER story ANTONY JOHNSTON art BEN TEMPLESMITH
The prequel to the all-new blockbuster sci-fi survival horror game from Electronic Arts! On the distant mining colony of Aegis VII, something strange and alien lurks beneath the surface... a mysterious artifact that brings nothing but trouble to the isolated workforce. As the arrival of the famous planetcracker ship Ishimura fast approaches, security officer Bram Neumann finds himself caught between religious fervor, miners slowly going insane, and the machinations of the mining corporation itself as he races to discover the secrets of the Marker... before it destroys them all!
DEAD SPACE is available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC this October. Winner of the E3 Game Critic's award for best Action/Adventure game of 2008, DEAD SPACE is a must buy for any fan of sci-fi and horror games!
Collects DEAD SPACE #1-6
DECEMBER 3 * 168 PAGES * FC * $24.99

Jim: I dropped the mini-series, but I’m such a huge Ben Templesmith fan that six issues for $25 in a hard cover is hard to resist. I’ll thing about this one.
Lee: There are so many other hc’s I want that I have to pass on some. This series failed my first test “based on video game?”, if yes then I pass.

TRANSHUMAN TP story JONATHAN HICKMAN art & cover J.M. RINGUET
From JONATHAN HICKMAN, creator THE NIGHTLY NEWS, PAX ROMANA and A RED MASS FROM MARS, and illustrated by JM RINGUET, comes TRANSHUMAN, a story that covers the discovery of superhuman genetic engineering, the companies built on the back of that discovery and the marketing war to bring it into each and every one of our homes.
Collects TRANSHUMAN #1-4
DECEMBER 3 * 120 PAGES * FC * $14.99

Jim: If you missed the mini-series get the trade. The first three issues have been great.
Lee: I’ve heard this has been really good. Hickman certainly has made a splash in the industry.

THE SWORD #14 story JOSHUA LUNA art & cover JONATHAN LUNA
The sword is taken from Dara.
DECEMBER 17 * 32 PAGES * FC * $2.99

Jim: I love the Luna brothers hype. They can never be said to engage in too much hyperbole. This has been a very good series so far.
Lee: Yep, the cut the hype right to bone! Bwah ha ha

Jim: Well that is a wrap. I guess with January and February being traditional slow sales months the companies also do not put out a lot of big projects in December either and that does not make a lot of sense to me as December should be a big sale month.
Lee: Very light month. Oh well. There’s still plenty of good stuff.
